Free Internet Service Providers
Today  there are so many FREE Internet service providers going out of business  and more being added all the time that this page may change often. The company that powered many of the FREE internet services has gone out of bussiness. That company was 1st Up.  However, I am evaluating more in it's wake, I will update my findings by the end of December. For now these Blue Light and Juno have survived.  I feel they are operating crippled. Blue light has scrambled to not be defunked and may have sacraficed on performance. They seem to kick me out within an hour of being connected.  Juno makes no mystery of there change. They are time limiting their free users and also kick you out if they feel you have been on to long. This disturbed me greatly in the middle of a download I had going! I still listed them here for now in hopes they both will get their act together. However the fastest and the best as of now would be Netzero.  Completely independant of the rest.  Full featured. Well, read below.

I am checking out Startfree as a free service provider. I will update my findings about them too soon.

Net Zero has taken the lead as the best Free ISP as of now. Others were better, but they went the way of the Do Do bird.  Netzero remains fast and friendly to the user,  but they too have gone to giving their customers 40 hours a month instead of unlimited time on the Internet.  Also I liked the free voice mail with the email service powered by Thinktank.  Not all areas have local numbers though.  They do have a lengthly form to fill out but it wasn't so bad. Their ad bar is either up top or below.  It is a nice ad bar and not one that flashes annoying colors at you. I grew use to it fast. Their choices of local numbers were many for me and I have not gotten busy signals from any of them considering the rush from other customers from defunked Free ISPs.   They are also the only one that works seemlessly with Outlook express. If you have other POP mail clients and have trouble with them simply go to Tools, Options and highlight the email you wish to fix. Click properties and Server. Then change the outgoing message to SMPT. netzero.com and you will have no trouble using it again.

This FREE ISP from K-Mart is undergoing changes and has some problems as stated above.    We still included it because we feel they will correct their problem of dropping their connection leaving you to connect again and again.    Bluelight is allied with  Yahoo. So, while having  a Bluelight  account  you have all the access to Yahoo's wonderful FREE services.  Yahoo's FREE e-mail in my opinion is one of the top 3 web-based free e-mail services.  You can use Yahoo to store photos and files, create your own MyYahoo page full of news, sports, TV listings, e-mail notification and just an incredible amount of information personal to you.  Blue light & Yahoo offers so much it's best if you check them out.  Bluelight will include an ad bar  that is movable to where you wish it to be.   Connections, local numbers all seem to rival the best.
However, give this one time to find another provider for their free internet. They claim they should have one in Febuary sometime.

Juno was  so good that I did not see why people insist on ISP's like AOL or MSN. I myself have Compuserve and never use it.  I relied heavily on  Juno more than the rest.  However, they too have problems now.  They time limit the free access version of their internet connection.  You never know when they will disconnect you. They claim the free users are impeding quality on the paying users.  This changed irks me and I am sure they will either fix this as many people will be complaining or drop the free service.  I am putting my hopes that they will keep free and good service in the long run.  They do have a wonderful ISP service when 100% working and not crippled.  For now Netzero is the best, but Juno makes a good backup.  You can download your email and read/reply while offline and you have web access to the mail as well from any computer anywhere. They also offer a very inexpensive version with less ads and no time limits.
